Near the end of December, 2016, rumors spread throughout the Kindred society of New York City of a virus that could infect Kindred blood.
Prince Regina called an unofficially "mandatory" conference for all Kindred of the city to clarify the details of this virus and how to keep safe. At the conference, the Prince advised those in attendance that "The Red Plague," as it has been colloquially termed, is a mutated virus that, while it appears similar to mono in humans, can be fatal for Kindred. The visible affects are fatigue, irritability, and eventually the formation of a white crust around the eyes. The most dangerous symptom, however, is that it slowly drives Kindred to frenzy more often and more violently. At four weeks, it is fatal.
The Prince advised that there was a cure already developed following its initial epidemic in Chicago over a decade ago. There is little known about its recent revival, other than that it started in D.C. She told the crowd that no known cases had been seen in New York as of yet, but to vigilant in watching for signs of the disease in oneself and others.
